Our front pond seems to have a bit of a seep when it approaches maximum capacity. Our dirt guru, Wayne, believes this is because when we deepened the pond the clay core of the dam might not have been built high enough inside the dam. The result is that as the water level rises it “spills over” the clay core inside the dam. The only way to correct it is to shave off the inside face of the dam and make sure the core goes high enough and low enough. Then we will reface the dam with a little more shallow pitch so it can safely be mowed. We are using the opportunity to sculpt the bottom in other areas. It will be awhile before Wayne can get his heavy equipment down near the dam. First it has to stop raining and then it has to completely dry up. In the interim, Rick used his smaller tractor, the “Blue Mule”, to do a little dirt work and sculpting of his own. Boys and their Tonka trucks never grow up!
